Shionoe Museum of Art

Artists

Toshikazu Kumano
The Shionoe Museum of Art opened in 1994 with a donation of 350 paintings by Toshikazu Kumano (1908-2005), a native of Shionoe, Takamatsu. Originally an elementary school teacher, Kumano pursued a dream of becoming a painter by moving to Tokyo in 1932. Inspired by European landscapes during a first visit in 1963, particularly the colors of southern France, Kumano continued traveling to Europe, creating art during stays. To celebrate the museum's 30th anniversary, this exhibition will feature approximately 30 works, focusing on Kumano's early pieces before European travels and artworks by domestic artists collected around the museum's opening.
