Emi Hirose "Re-cord"

Artists

Emi Hirose
In this exhibition, Hirose attempts a new form of expression by combining two different materials: glass and canvas. She drips heated glass onto the canvas and burns it, capturing the momentary movement of the glass and recording the traces of hers own body and existence on the canvas.
The melted glass changes shape under the influence of heat and gravity, moving and dancing as if it were alive, evoking the melody of music. Captivated by the beauty that resides in this uncontrollable ambiguity, Hirose continues to create works that engage with the charm of a single strand of glass.

The exhibition title, ‘Re-cord,’ is derived from the English word ‘record,’ with a focus on its etymology. “Re” means ‘again,’ ‘return,’ or ‘new,’ and ‘cord’ means ‘heart’ in Latin. Thus, ‘Re-cord’ implies ‘returning to the heart’ or ‘recording the heart,’ suggesting deep introspection and layers of emotion. Additionally, ‘cord’ also carries the connotation of “rhythm” or ‘pattern,’ creating a double meaning that resonates with the musical elements the artist perceives in her work. Through this exhibition, we invite you to experience the moment when the fluid movement of glass, akin to life itself, touches the viewer's memory and heart as a record preserved by heat and gravity.
