Emilia Alvarez, an artist-in-residence at Kyoto Art Center since August 2023, has been researching the bamboo forests of Kyoto under the theme of "forest bathing" with Butoh dancers during her residency. She sees forest bathing as a whole-body-driven listening practice. In this work, Alvarez seeks to express the information that is carefully listened to and collected by the body in the forest. That listening is with the rhythm of breathing and dancing, influenced by the movements and sounds of the environment itself. In the video presented in the exhibition, the body movements of Kenta Masukawa, a butoh dancer, become a medium for the audience to experience inhabiting a certain boundary. A boundary between the forest as one organic technical body=body and the human body in the air of a club in the middle of the night.
