Maurice Utrillo
Maurice Utrillo was a painter who dominated the world in the first half of the 20th century with his depictions of melancholy Parisian scenes. Throughout his life, he continued to produce oil paintings depicting the streets, bars, and churches of Paris, where he was born and raised. He was awarded the Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur in 1928 in his home country, and many solo exhibitions of his work have been held in Japan.

This exhibition features approximately 70 works from his collection in Japan, including the "Montmagny Period," when he began painting to treat alcoholism; the "White Period," when his outstanding depiction of white walls flourished and became increasingly popular; the "Color Period," when his use of color changed from rich to rich; and the works of his later years. This exhibition explores the life of Utrillo, who was a painter in the turbulent period of the late 19th and early 20th centuries in Paris, the capital of art, and who continued to work in solitude on his paintings.
