Artists

Maurice Utrillo
Maurice Utrillo (1883-1955) is known as a painter of melancholy Parisian scenes. His talent blossomed when he began painting as a treatment for alcoholism, and in 1928 he was awarded the Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur and became one of the leading painters of the Ecole de Paris.

Among Utrillo's works spanning nearly half a century, those painted during the "White Period" from 1908 to 1904 are particularly highly regarded. This exhibition commemorates the 140th anniversary of Utrillo's birth and introduces works from the domestic collection, focusing on works from the "White Period," characterized by the depiction of white walls that made him famous as a painter, the early "Montmagny Period," the richly colored "Color Period" from 1915, and his later works up to his later years.
