The 6th exhibition of photographs by the full-time faculty of the Photography Department of Nihon University, titled "Sky VI," will be held.

The faculty of the Photography Department are not only alumni who graduated from Nihon University's College of Art with a focus on photography, but they have also rigorously learned fundamental techniques from their predecessors and, based on that, have conducted research and practical work to develop their photographic expressions. They engage with a wide range of photographic worlds through interactions with many students, experimenting with various forms of photographic expression.

This exhibition introduces the works of four production-oriented faculty members from the Photography Department. While their primary role is as educators with a focus on teaching, they continue their creative activities with a focus on presenting their works, and all the works in this exhibition are being presented for the first time.

Kimiko Akimoto, making her third appearance in two years, observes the world with the five elements—earth, water, fire, wind, and sky—in mind, expressing the connections between nature, the city, and human existence, as well as the world beyond what is visible. Although the photographs were taken on a southern island in Japan this time, Akimoto expresses the darkness she sensed beyond that specific location. Despite having excellent printing techniques, she intentionally emphasizes a world different from reality through printing to match the images.

Yuki Anabuki, appearing for the fifth time, incorporates new techniques into her work, creating her unique world of photographic expression. This time, she continues her life's work, which she has been pursuing since 2004, following the flow of last year's work. Anabuki captures the reality of the "here and now" while reenacting her memories, evoking a sense of discomfort with her photographs taken in ordinary living spaces.

Kazuto Hattori, making his third appearance after a three-year hiatus, shares work captured during his repeated visits to Africa as a traveler before the COVID-19 pandemic. Hattori, who had long stays and worked in Kenya, conveys the vast, powerful, and beautiful landscapes and the bright and robust people living there. This time, he uses an installation method with vivid African fabrics to express the image of Africa, including the background of the photographs.

Motoharu Yagi, appearing for the second time following last year, after honing his skills in architectural photography and working in education, has been producing works related to buildings as his lifelong work. This time, his works focus on dams, examining their relationship with the environment and nature. Capturing dams in the snow, Yagi prioritizes his image while pursuing the beauty of tones in black and white photographs, expressing his unique worldview.

These four educators, dedicated to their educational roles while continuing their creative activities, present their final works with an emphasis on original prints.
