Fantasista Utamaro
This exhibition celebrates the publication of the poetry book "Chimera/Shark Whale,” and will feature two-dimensional works by Fantasista Utamaro, the artist in charge of the illustrations for the book, which were drawn especially for the book.

In June 2022, Hiroya Isozaki published his first book of poems and drawings, "The Folds of Solaris," with illustrations by contemporary artist Kimizo Ito. He then produced the artwork for the outdoor music festival "Lucky Fes" held at Hitachi Seaside Park in July 2022, together with Fantasista Utamaro, and further encouraged his poetry through contemplation of place and festival, repose and rebirth. The second collection of poems, "Chimera/Shark Whale," was published on Friday, April 21, and Fantasista Utamaro was in charge of illustrations for the book. The book is a collection of fundamental and painful questions that confront the very meaning of life.

Fantasista Utamaro is a New York-based artist whose music videos include "Tell Your World" and "Transfer" for Livetune feat. Hatsune Miku and "It Girl" for Pharrell Willi. His colorful and vivid visuals inspired by Japanese pop culture have been recognized around the world, and a BAFTA British Academy Award was awarded to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in 2022 for the Tokyo Olympics trailer video he helped produce as art director.

He says that meeting Isozaki inspired questions about creation, life, and the world that he had long harbored through the creation of decorative art and illustrations for the aforementioned outdoor music festival.

This exhibition will feature works that represent Fantasista Utamaro's progress, including a new two-dimensional work drawn for a poetry and art book to be published this year, and will include an advance sale of the poetry and art book "Chimera/Shark Whale.
