IM MEN, a menswear brand started in 2021, pursues new possibilities of clothes-making with respect to the human body, derived from Issey Miyake's philosophy of "a piece of cloth." The design team sets out to redefine clothing with the approach to both a garment's form-making and its construction, reflecting the practice of the integration of design and engineering.
In January 2025, IM MEN held an exhibition for three days at the same venue of the show which presented its collection for the first time at Paris Men's Fashion Week. This project aimed to encourage dialogues between audiences not only in fashion, but also in other creative fields and beyond, to further explore the relationship between society and clothing design for the future.
On the basis of the project in Paris, this exhibition in Tokyo covers several garment series, developed based on the philosophy of "a piece of cloth." The installation presents garments made from original fabrics, developed by incorporating advanced technologies with traditional weaving and dyeing techniques, reflecting the practice of integrating design (form-making) and engineering (construction), to explore the possibilities of a piece of cloth to its furthest limits.
