From the Oblivion

Artists

Daisuke Abe, Anna Yamanishi, Naosuke Wada
This exhibition focuses on fragments of memory and the process of forgetting, exploring the relationship between memory and oblivion. Human memory tends to fade over time, becoming vague and abstract. Forgetting is not only a loss of personal memories but also manifests in various forms due to shifts in social values, cultural transformations, and environmental changes. These forms of forgetting are often inevitable and difficult to avoid.

The artists featured in this exhibition create works that encapsulate the fleeting and fragile nature of memory, the subtle emotions brought about by the passage of time, and its complexities, using unique visual languages. Daisuke Abe’s work captures traces of time and memory on objects that are not perceptible to the naked eye, using special inks to strip away layers like skin, making these traces manifest. Anne Yamanishi uses materials like wood to carve motifs that evoke the soft textures and sensations of commonly touched objects like fabric and string, creating a contradictory relationship between materiality and imagery that challenges the viewer's cognitive functions. Naosuke Wada's work layers high-transparent mediums to create paintings that visually represent the structure of memory and time as a fluid, multi-layered experience, suggesting an interrelation between past, present, and future.
