Artists

Kenji Nakamura
This is a solo exhibition of Kenji Nakamura, a Japanese painter born and living in Kumamoto. His subjects and expressions are wide-ranging, freely moving from European landscapes to figures, ancient Japanese gods and Buddha, and abstraction. He continues to tackle everything possible in the field of Japanese painting with a flexible attitude, including teaching younger artists, restoring cultural properties, illustrating serialized newspaper novels and essays, and holding solo exhibitions in and out of the prefecture.

This exhibition will feature works on the subject of Mount Aso and works on the subject of flowers in each of the exhibition rooms. The artist says that Aso was an important subject for him because of his fear of the explosive eruption in 2016. Flowers, on the other hand, he says, are the subject matter that gives him a sense of the changing seasons and a sense of peacefulness through his daily sketches.

Aso and flowers, the other world and everyday life, fear and peace. Through the contrast of the artist's latest expression, this exhibition will allow visitors to feel the "artist's present" and the expression of nature unique to Kumamoto.
