Finished
Renowned actor Gérard Philipe (1922-1959) made a meteoric rise in the French film industry in the 1940s, swiftly becoming a star. In the film adaptation of Dostoevsky's "The Idiot" (1946), he portrayed Prince Myshkin, and in "Devil in the Flesh" (1947), alongside Micheline Presle, he played the lead role, captivating audiences worldwide with his unparalleled beauty and presence. As he also made a mark on the stage, regardless of the roles he played, his performances were filled with elegance. He was often referred to as the "flawless diamond."

In 1953, this beloved French actor visited Japan. Gérard Philipe came to Japan for the inaugural "First French Film Festival," the first large-scale post-war event of its kind, and was warmly welcomed by Japanese audiences. During this visit, he developed a close friendship with the Kawakitas and showed a keen interest in Japanese films and culture. In 1958, after portraying the short-lived painter Modigliani in "Montparnasse Lights," he tragically passed away at the young age of 36. The untimely death of this extraordinary actor was mourned by people around the world.
