Artists

Hal Matsuda
Hal Matsuda was born in Iwate Prefecture in 1998, graduated from the University of Tsukuba in 2021 with a BFA in printmaking, and Kyoto University of the Arts in 2023 with an MFA in Fine Art, and is currently based in Tokyo. Matsuda has devoted himself to projects to dissolve the differences and dichotomies between virtual reality and the real world in any form, including prints, 3D printed sculptures, video, and installation.

This exhibition is a vigorous attempt to address the crossover between the (in)compatibility of reality and virtuality, and the (un)freedom of his own production method using replication technology, with the keyword overworld, a concept from Minecraft, one of the most famous video games in the world.

*Overworld: The name of the field in which the player first arrives, and which becomes the basis for building structures and activities.
