“Dawn" is the result of a new fusion of traditional Kanazawa foil, the pride of Japan, and cutting-edge technology. The foil, produced and laminated by hand by skilled craftsmen, is then perforated with an extremely fine mesh using advanced laser processing equipment, and the new expression created by the light passing through the holes and the foil is realized as a work of art.

This is an invention of a new relationship between foil and transmitted light that has never existed in the history of Kanazawa foil, which has continued for more than 400 years since foil technology was introduced to the Kaga domain. The title of this work, “Dawn," expresses the desire to mark a new page in the history of traditional craftsmanship, and expresses a scene as if looking back at that dawn from an even higher level of space, a scene of light as if interwoven with fixed stars and planets.

This work was produced in collaboration with "Hakuichi," a company in Kanazawa that produces more than 98% of Japan's gold leaf and is a key player in the industry, which continues to take on various new challenges while preserving its traditions. The project seeks new expression by combining traditional crafts with modern cutting-edge technology and passing them on to the future as an ongoing, living technology. This collaboration aims for such development. This work is also the first artwork that Hideki Yoshimoto, founder of the design studio "Tangent," has released under his own name.
