Hirono International Artist in Residence Torigoya Project 2023-2024

Hirono Miraikan
Finished

Artists

Nadine Baldow, Minori Aoki
Artists Nadine Baldow and Minori Aoki, chosen through a public review, will stay at Hirono Miraikan from December 11th to mid-January. They aim to create works inspired by the Hamadori New Year event, "Torikoya," in Fukushima. Baldow will research Hirono's history, culture, and nature, crafting site-specific sculptures combining items from Ireland, Lithuania, Iceland, and the local area. Aoki plans to collaborate with locals to create a soft sculpture merging Hirono's "Torikoya" with the "Yahahaero" event in the artist's hometown, Nagai, Yamagata. The Hirono Miraikan will serve as the studio, allowing public observation, artist interaction, and participation during opening hours.
