Hisami Tanaka
Hisami Tanaka is an artist who explores painting expressions that are conscious of the concept of "passive and active" or tautology (repetition of the same word), which is also a recurring theme in his work. In this exhibition, his third solo exhibition at Kameido Art Center, Tanaka aims to bring flexibility to the interpretation of his artworks by introducing the keywords "short-circuit" and "hasty," while maintaining the basic approach inherited from past exhibitions.
Tanaka positively interprets these words, typically used in a negative sense, and reflects them in his attitude toward creating artworks. This is manifested in the selection of subjects and motifs for the artworks, as well as the composition of the scenes and the shapes of the objects placed within them. For example, by adopting an attitude of selecting motifs such as dogs or flowers (without much thought, in a short-circuit, or hasty manner), the artworks exhibit passivity while also bringing out tautological elements, yet they subtly blur the message.
During his illness from COVID-19 last year, Tanaka experienced healing through ambient music, which he had not listened to much in recent years. This led him to realize the "goodness" or "rightness" of the music in an irrational manner. Similarly, Tanaka believes that affirming the beauty and cuteness (naturally deemed good) of motifs such as "flowers," "dogs," and "cats" in the world of painting from a tautological perspective is connected to the straightforward (short-circuit) comfort that ambient music provides, whether good or bad.
At the venue, ambient music created by Hisami Tanaka will be played as background music to accompany the exhibition.
