Hello Gallery Tokyo is pleased to announce our collaboration with a Japanese artist Hoki, the exhibition titled "Hello! Tsunoda" starting from Friday 21st July. Hoki's representative character is called "Tsunoda" as it has "tsuno" which means "horn" in Japanese. Despite its half-human, half-beast fantasy appearance, his Japanese animation style somehow evokes a sense of familiarity. Horns are the symbol of "strength and bravery" as a male. Contrary to his dim expression, the horns, which are always present as if they were natural, sometimes seem heavy and even too rugged on his head. Tsunoda's appearance is a personification of the process by which a person develops strength, and it is also the pessimistic side that constantly appears within what makes someone strong. In this exhibition, in addition to 12 canvas works, Hoki's symbolic "horn" portrait, and a few Tsunoda appearances made of wood, are making the venue full of playfulness.
