Horinji: The Roots of Zen in Yokohama

Horinji, established in Yokohama around the 15th century, was revitalized in the mid-18th century by Zen master Zenne Gessen, a significant figure in Kamakura Zen. Gessen founded Tokian within the temple, attracting many renowned Zen monks. This exhibition explores the flourishing Zen culture of Yokohama's Nagata area and examines the origins of contemporary Zen practice.
