Breathing (息Iki, coming from Japanese) unseals the body, revealing the ever-open seam between self and world. Life settles where breath writes its rhythm upon the air. The shifting rhythms of breath trace the contours of how we live-interwoven with feeling and thoughts, weaving through space or time. The breath of motion, in the last frozen frame, becomes the final, enduring truth, and an instrument of soul. Each breath draws in more than air-it inhales histories, hierarchies, climates, etched by the invisible architecture of society.
This visual exploration aims to reflect breathing both as an intuitive and sensory gesture and a carrier of meanings, through artists’ embodied response to flow of time, memory and the invisible rhythms of the world around and within them.
