After launching international collaborations with IKEA and ZARA, Spanish-born illustrator Inigo Gutierrez (@inigo_studio) joined MIDORI.so Studio in March 2025. During his residency, he immersed himself in hands-on experimentation—exploring silkscreen and garment printing as a way to expand and evolve his creative process.

Drawing inspiration from his surroundings and MIDORI.so’s library—sourcing references from design, packaging, fashion, art, and even dogs—Inigo pushed the boundaries of his practice and explored new ways of bringing his ideas into physical form.

Niagara, Inigo’s first solo exhibition at MIDORI.so Bakuroyokoyama Gallery, presents the outcome of his exploration at MIDORI.so Studio. On view from April 18 to April 28, 2025, the show features a new body of work, including illustrations of yuppies in business attire, early-internet-inspired logos, and summery imagery, paired with a capsule collection of ready-to-wear fashion goods in a 90s-inspired style. Niagara reflects the sense of humor and creative experimentation Inigo embraced during his time at the studio, offering a nostalgic look at the 1990s and capturing the era’s aesthetic of power and aspiration.

For Inigo, the 90s were a culturally vibrant time—defined by fashion houses, supermodels, black-and-white photography, the rise of the internet, and iconic films. Yet beneath the surface, he sensed a shift toward a more transactional world, shaped by ambition and material desire.

Rather than critique, his approach is one of observation and play. His process began with a mood board filled with references from music, movies, and fashion ads. Throughout the drawing and printing process, one word continued to echo in his mind: Niagara. A quiet anchor for the project, the word evokes something cinematic, bold, and in motion—an undercurrent that flows through the entire exhibition.
