Iro-e and Sometsuke - Elegantly Decorated Ceramic Ware

Idemitsu Museum of Arts, Moji
Finished
The decorations that adorn ceramic ware reflect the tastes of each period and region. Various decorative techniques and patterns, which were born and developed mainly in China, spread not only to Japan but also to other regions connected by trade, showing the connections among people at that time. On the other hand, the decoration of pottery also reflects the unique culture and aesthetic sense of the time. The beauty of connection and individuality can be seen in pottery. The exhibition introduces two techniques, "Iro-e" and "Sometsuke," which are the keywords for the gorgeous styles of pottery that have blossomed around the world.
