This exhibition features both previous works based on still and moving images sourced from the internet, and new works incorporating old photographs of others. Through these, Oishi investigates the counterfactual reality that emerges between the image and the medium — the space where her gaze is directed. The digital images displayed on-screen, reinterpreted in the liminal space between photography and painting, seek to break free from the “weight of the image” — the accumulation of meaning and interpretation — and instead, as Roland Barthes describes, gain a renewed presence through “extreme love,” a radical acceptance of being.

When the image of a once-existing being is received anew — endowed with substance and radiance — and begins to speak of something in the here and now, what kinds of events can truly take place, and how might they rewrite the history? Please participate in the time of love and redemption, arising from the memory of pure images.
