With Royal Blood, Denver-based multimedia artist Jeff Stevens returns to Japan with an entirely fresh new body of work for his second solo-exhibition with Gallery Ether. Stevens’ work is a process of deconstruction and reconstruction soaked in punk aesthetics, with each piece balancing a delicate mix of painting, street art stenciling, and collage. In Royal Blood, Stevens expands on past series, tearing down and reconfiguring the iconography of government, religion, and industry to dissect and examine the darker underlying influences of mainstream culture and power. The work in Royal Blood further calls into question the methodology behind the maintenance of power, wealth and authority and serves as an embodiment of the primordial human desire to usurp and supplant that methodology.

Royal Blood is Jeff Stevens’ second solo-exhibition to be held in Tokyo at Gallery Ether. We invite all to come and experience the richly nuanced and layered multimedia collage works from Saturday, September 9th through Saturday, September 30th.
