Johnny Mae Hauser, Aldo van den Broek
Som Gallery is pleased to announce the duo show by Johnny Mae Hauser and Aldo van den Broek, based in Netherlands, "Undercurrent" at Bakuroyokoyama.

Johnny Mae Hauser is a Dutch-German artist born in 1997. Hauser tries to capture the obscure existence of human emotion by her photography. It is through Hauser’s poetic use of color and the anonymous qualities of her imagery, where themes such introspection, isolation and (emotional) intimacy unite.

Aldo Van den Broek is a self-taught artist born in 1985. By using scrap materials that he carefully selects from the street he reframes and re-contextualizes his subject, and combines technical mastery with playful assemblage techniques.
The medium is also diverse, such as charged textured canvas and sculpture.

Johnny Mae Hauser and Aldo van den Broek converge in the theme of "Undercurrent" by spotlighting the quieter, often unnoticed facets of human life.
Hauser's photography captures the enigmatic realm of emotions with serene and introspective images, characterized by soft and cool color schemes. These visuals invite viewers to explore introspection, isolation, and emotional intimacy, challenging conventional ways of seeing photography.
In contrast, van den Broek navigates societal undercurrents through his textured artworks, often inspired by metropolises, desolate landscapes, and the mysteries of strangers. His choice of materials, such as discarded cardboard, wood, fabrics, plastic, and metals, breathes life into his pieces.
Both artists urge us to take a closer look at the subtleties of our own experiences, inviting a profound connection with the concealed currents of human existence.

The exhibition features about seven works by Hauser and about fourteen paintings by van den Broek.
An opening reception attended by van den Broek and Hauser will be held on Friday, September 29th 19:00-21:00 at Som Gallery.
