Kagizen Yoshifusa Collection - Kanjiro Kawai and His Lineage

ZENBI (Kagizen Art Museum)
Finished

Artists

Kanjiro Kawai et al.
This exhibition features work by Kanjiro Kawai (1890-1966) and other ceramic artists in his lineage from the collection of Kagizen Yoshifusa.

Kawai built his house and studio in Gojozaka, Kyoto in 1920, where the Kanjiro Kawai Memorial Museum now stands. The Kagizen Yoshifusa shop, which has long been located in the Gion district of Tokyo, a popular gathering place for writers and artists, has many works by artists who participated in the Mingei movement, such as Kawai and Tatsuaki Kuroda (1904-1982), indicating their close friendship at that time.

This exhibition focuses on the works of Kanjiro Kawai and his adopted son, Hiroji (1919-1993), in Period I, and his nephew, Takeichi (1908-1989), and his son, Toru (1941-2021), in Period II.
