Kan Irie
Chigasaki City Museum of Art is pleased to present an exhibition of works by Kan Irie (1935- ), one of Japan's leading Western-style painters. As a student, Irie became interested in the French painter Paul Cézanne, and in 1962, he went to France to study under Maurice Brianchon, where he learned the importance of composition in European painting. After returning to Japan, Irie left Cézanne's influence behind and established his painting style, using Japanese landscapes as his subject matter. This exhibition focuses on Irie's representative works depicting Shonan from his recent works and from the Chigasaki City Museum of Art collections and private collectors.
