Kanae Tsutsumi
This marks Kanae Tsutsumi's first solo exhibition at Gallery Parc. Born in Kyoto in 1986, Tsutsumi graduated from Kyoto Seika University Graduate School in 2011 and has since been involved in creating tapestries using tsuzure-ori (a traditional Japanese weaving technique). However, her stay in Finland from 2018 to 2019 sparked an interest in her roots in Japan, leading her to incorporate familiar materials and Japanese textile crafts into her work. She began presenting woven fabrics as sculptural works.

Tsutsumi, while adhering to existing textile techniques, particularly focuses on the acts of "weaving" and "dyeing" fabric. Through this process, she explores various techniques involved in creating a single piece of fabric and delves into their historical and cultural contexts. By expressing the emotions and events encapsulated in these techniques and processes, she aims to facilitate a dialogue between the textiles and the viewers.

The exhibition will feature approximately 15 works, including four new pieces that reflect on the use of chemical and natural dyes, among other recent works by Tsutsumi.
