Kanji Itoi
Kanji Itoi, who began performing in the 1960s, nicknamed "Dadakan", was based in Sendai but well known throughout Japan.

Itoi began creating woodblock prints, haiku, and poetry at the end of the 1950s, just before he began his performance activities, and these works were shown in solo exhibitions and magazines.

Itoi's life-long haiku work and the woodblock prints he produced were born from his life in Sendai, Omori (Tokyo), and Nakatsu (Oita). His work gives viewers a somewhat surprising impression, given Itoi's interest in Zen and Dadaism, as well as his performance activities since the 1960s, due to their orthodox expressionistic techniques.

This exhibition explores Itoi's expressive activities since the late 1950s and his spirituality, as well as trends in postwar avant-garde art, such as the network of expressionists of the time, through Itoi's woodblock prints and other materials he left behind.
