In the Bijutsu-no-mori greenery behind the Hakenomori Museum of Art, there is a teahouse called "Kashin-an" along with the main house (now an annexed cafe building) where the Western-style painter Kenichi Nakamura (1895-1967) used to live. Nakamura, who enjoyed "making ceramics" and "tea" as a part of his daily life and painting, built the teahouse in 1961. Both buildings are the first nationally registered tangible cultural properties in Koganei City. “Kashin-an and Contemporary Artists" is a project to exhibit work by contemporary artists at Kashin-an. In the first phase of this exhibition, a video work by Nobuhiro Shimura (1982) will be presented in the teahouse.

Shimura has presented video installations using familiar objects from daily life - buttons, ribbons, buckets, old books, etc. - as motifs and sometimes using them as screens to evoke the viewer's memories and feelings associated with these objects. In recent years, he has been presenting video installations rooted in specific regions. Shimura's worldview, which deals with the "past" in terms of memory and history, evokes a sense of nostalgia and longing for things gone while at the same time quietly speaking to us about the reality of the "present" and prompting us to imagine what the "future" holds. The exhibition, including Shimura's 45-minute video work "Nostalgia, Amnesia" (2019), will be shown in the Hakenomori Museum of Art's 2nd-floor lounge, which is normally closed to the public.
