Kazushi Ooura
This exhibition commemorates the retirement of Kazushi Ooura, who has long been involved in practical classes at the University's Common Painting Laboratory to consider "what is the basis of modeling" in art and design through pictorial expression.

The great pyroclastic flow of Mt. Unzen Fugendake in Nagasaki Prefecture occurred on June 3, 1991, and took many lives. Motivated by a photograph left on the camera of a newspaper reporter who died in the line of duty as a result of this natural disaster, Ooura has been traveling back and forth between the disaster area and Tokyo for 30 years, digging up damaged objects from the ruins of houses buried in ash and soil, and documenting nature after the eruption. This presentation will introduce Ooura's fieldwork, in which he confronts the "threat of nature and human activities" through his own body.
