The Domon Ken Award, established by the Mainichi Shimbun in 1981 to honor the achievements of Ken Domon, has reached its 42nd edition this year and is widely recognized as one of Japan's premier photography awards.
This exhibition presents works from six photographers- Naoki Ishikawa, Mitsuhiko Imamori, Hidehiro Otake, Nobuo Shimose, Ikuo Nakamura, and Manabu Miyazaki- who have focused on nature and animals among the past award recipients in the collection. Their works, spanning from tropical rainforests to the Arctic Circle, from high mountains to the open seas, offer an opportunity to observe and contemplate the world from the perspective of nature and animals. With the growing attention to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and biodiversity in recent years, the hope is that this exhibition enhances empathy and understanding toward the diversity of nature through photography, fostering contemplation for a sustainable future.
