Kenchuji: Family Temple of the Owari Tokugawa Clan

The Tokugawa Art Museum
Finished
Kenchuji Temple was founded by the second head of the Owari Tokugawa family, Mitsutomo, to honor the memory of the first head, Yoshinao, who passed away in Keian 3 (1650). As the family temple, its buildings and treasures were enhanced by successive heads and their families. The temple includes the Goryo, which enshrines the ancestral tablets, and the cemetery, which houses the graves and beloved items of the deceased. This exhibition brings together the treasures associated with Kenchuji Temple, unraveling its history alongside the Owari Tokugawa family. Additionally, it will introduce the ongoing renovations of the Kenchuji Goryo.
