By using a manual of instructions with random numbers, Koga Miura creates paintings by drawing lines on canvas at random positions and in random color schemes. By following the instructions and repeating a specific format, the artist's subjectivity is stripped away. This reveals the purity of the drawing itself and the line itself. Slow Work reflects Miura's description of this style as labor, a method of creating in accordance with rules. According to Miura, art is not a flash of genius, but a simple and pure activity of moving hands and interacting with objects.
