Koh-ichi Odanaka
Iwate-native Koh-ichi Odanaka studied stencil dyeing under Keisuke Serizawa, the holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Asset, before taking over as the third generation in his dyeing studio.

Today, in response to requests from all over Japan as well as from the local community, he also designs furoshiki (wrapping cloths), hand towels, product packages and logos, illustrations, and book bindings utilizing katazome, many of which, like Kohgensha's "walnut cookies," are well known in the local community. He has also been involved in a wide range of activities, such as showing his creative stencil dyeing works at the annual spring public exhibition (National Exhibition at the New National Museum of Art, Tokyo).

This exhibition showcases the work that Odanaka has created with great care and affection (some of them will be available for order). For those who are unfamiliar with katazome, there will be a section explaining the process of katazome dyeing, and valuable katazome tools actually used will also be on display.
