Born in Okayama, Japan in 1980, Koichi Nishizaka is the owner of the Asakusabashi-based antique store/gallery ‘Hakujitu’. Presenting found objects, tools, and antiques alongside new works by artists, both famous and unknown, Nishizaka’s unique worldview gives a new interpretation of antiques. Before opening Hakujitu in 2016, Nishizaka pursued careers as a rapper and as a chef.

This exhibition, "Substream" is the result of a dialogue between the ‘materials’ collected by Nishizaka, and the artists he passes them to. The participating artists have used original techniques and materials to create completely new works from a variety of discarded and antiquated objects, which Nishizaka will then arrange in the space to form the final exhibition.

Alongside ceramic artist Ryuta Fukumura, lacquerware artist Hideaki Hanano, metalsmith Kousuke Ohira, and glass artisan Yoshihiro Nishiyama, Hender Scheme will also participate in response to Nishizaka's request, showcasing and selling unique pieces created by each artist.
