Koji Shiouchi
Koji Shiouchi founded the creative collective "Cattleyatokyo" after studying abroad in the UK. Using a collective method that crosses the fields of fashion, music, and art, Shionouchi creates diverse expressions in art direction, graphic design, product, video, and artwork. Following his solo exhibition last year, Shiouchi was selected as the main artist for the NFT art project at Shibuya Parco and Shinsaibashi Parco.
The exhibition title "megalithic yard" is a term for an ancient fictional unit of length equivalent to approximately 2.72 feet (0.83 m). It has also been believed by some researchers to be the unit used in the construction of megalithic structures. These massive structures, made of natural stone with only minor modifications, are also places of prayer, ritual, and worship.
The exhibition will feature 70 x 70cm landscapes of mountains and lakes, the moon and sun, and outer space all in one piece, as well as a series of psychic portraits that are an update of his popular works. The venue will be directed by Cattleyatokyo and the booth will be designed by Buttondesign.
Shiouchi makes weekly pilgrimages to a temple to help him concentrate on his work. There are moments when a work of art is born, just as a Buddhist monk is guided by an unseen force to dig up a statue of Buddha. For Shiouchi, his artwork must be a redeeming presence with some kind of added effect.
