Kouichi Matsuda
Wish Less Gallery is thrilled to announce a solo exhibition by manga artist / illustrator Kouichi Matsuda.
Matsuda was born in Iwate Prefecture and moved to Tokyo, where he studied under legendary manga artist Takashi Nemoto and made his debut as a manga artist for ‘AX’ magazine. In 2024, he published his first book, ‘Unmei,’ attracting attention as a promising young artist.

Matsuda’s works depict a surreal society where people from all eras and regions gather, blending reality with the extraordinary. He reimagines the aspirations of the citizens of Showa to Heisei eras―such as salarymen from the bubble era, OL (office ladies), and Gals―with dark humour, transposing them into the present day. His works envision a chaotic future world liberated from morality and order.

This exhibition will feature his latest paintings. Matsuda has garnered attention not only in the manga world but also from fashion brands and promises to deliver an exciting new body of work.
