Learning About Japanese Swords Through Touken Ranbu: The Future Exhibit - Secrets of the Sword Warriors

National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation
Finished
The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation or Miraikan and the Production Committee for "Learning About Japanese Swords Through Touken Ranbu" will hold this special exhibition. This exhibition, in collaboration with the characters from "Touken Ranbu," aims to explore and pass on to the future the techniques and culture of Japanese swords, which have been developed in modern Japan, through a combination of "science" and "entertainment."

The venue is divided into five sections (areas), each offering various activities such as learning about the manufacturing process of Japanese swords, observing real Japanese swords, and experiencing swordsmanship. In the final section, visitors will have the opportunity to see "Imaken," a legendary sword said to have been the guardian sword of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, specially crafted based on this legend for the exhibition.

"Touken Ranbu Online" is a sword-raising simulation game that started service in 2015, where Japanese swords are transformed into warriors known as "Touken Danshi" to protect history. The game has since expanded into various fields, including a musical adaptation in the same year, stage and anime adaptations in 2016, a live-action film in 2019, and a Kabuki performance in 2023. This exhibition marks the first time Touken Ranbu is featured in a science museum.
