Artists

Tomonari Hashimoto
An exhibition that opens the door to art during summer vacation. The works of artists currently active in Wakayama and works from the Museum of Modern Art's collection will be combined to guide visitors into the art world from new perspectives.

The "Museum of Modern Art" exhibition is now in its 13th year, introducing works from the museum's collection from various angles during the summer vacation. This year, the exhibition will introduce the work of Tomonari Hashimoto, a native of Yuasa Town, along with other works from the museum's collection.

Born in 1990 in Yuasa Town, Hashimoto received his doctorate from Kanazawa College of Art in 2017. He creates work with a unique expression using ceramics as a material and has received high acclaim, including being selected as a finalist for the Loewe Craft Prize 2019 and having his work acquired by the Victoria & Albert Museum in 2019.

The Museum of Modern Art will combine Hashimoto's work with works from the museum's collection to explore the ways in which his artworks work with the viewer. The Kumano Kodo Nakahechi Art Museum (Tanabe City Museum of Art Branch) will also hold a workshop as a joint project.
