Since 1907, Mitsukoshi Isetan has been dealing with artworks, starting with the establishment of the "Art Department" by Mitsukoshi. Traditionally, it has handled paintings and crafts, serving as an exhibition space for art organizations. After the war, a "museum" was established within the store through collaboration with a newspaper, leading to large-scale exhibitions that led the art scene when it was opened in Isetan Shinjuku in 1979. Mitsukoshi Isetan, as a cultural enlightenment provider, sought to be at the forefront of the times, actively introducing the art of that era. In recent years, to expand the scope of art, it has actively introduced the works of young and mid-career artists. With the widespread use of social media, it has become challenging to grasp the full picture, as many artists now operate individually.

In this context, the Isetan Shinjuku Art Gallery held a project last year called "Magicians Encounter." This initiative involves selecting artists that only artists can discover, curating exhibitions in a new context while connecting various artists. Following #1 of this initiative, the gallery will host an exhibition directed by Miyahara and featuring five artists, including him.
