Maika Kunimori + Olectronica "Handshake with Memory"

Kyoto Art Center
Finished

Artists

Maika Kunimori, Olectronica
Objects that have been used in daily life sometimes retain traces of people's lives and feel as if they carry memories. This exhibition highlights the attitude and creativity of the two artists exhibiting in this show by referring to the way they interact with objects as handiwork.

Oita-based Olectronica takes antiques and junk that have outlived their usefulness and turns them into something else. On the other hand, Maika Kunimori, who was born and raised in a coal mining area in Fukuoka, takes the theme of "coal mines" and depicts the lives of the people who lived there.

Her work is an attempt to approach something that is about to disappear from this society and scoop up what is there. Although their genres of expression and motifs differ, they both take objects that have been closely related to people's lives and try to reconnect them to human relationships.
