Maiko Kobayashi
A talk event to commemorate the publication of Maiko Kobayashi's first art book 'Forms of Being' will be held on July 20.

Maiko Kobayashi was born in 1977 in Yokohama City. She graduated from the Department of Space Design at Musashino Art University Junior College and later studied life drawing and sketching at Setsu Mode Seminar. In 2008, she completed her Master's degree in Art Practice at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Northumbria University in the UK. She is currently based in Tokyo and actively exhibits her work in galleries and art fairs both domestically and internationally, in Europe, Asia, and Japan.

Maiko Kobayashi is known for her unique character, the nameless "creatures," which deeply resonate with viewers' hearts. Her works, which have garnered a large following both in Japan and abroad, feature these mysterious creatures with endearing appearances and melancholy expressions, meticulously depicted on canvases with torn washi paper and acrylic paint. These creatures evoke strong psychological empathy, making viewers feel understood and embraced. The profound emotional connection her works establish, reaching deep into the viewers' subconscious (touching upon deep sadness, loneliness, and quiet anger), is always striking.

This exhibition will consist of nine new works. An opening reception will be held on the first day, Friday, July 5, from 5 PM.
