Makiko Satake
Makiko Satake, inspired by the series "False Bus Stops," where she created objects modeled after bus stops washed away by the tsunami of the Great East Japan Earthquake and reinstalled them, has continued to create and exhibit works based on landscapes and the lives of people she witnessed in disaster areas and stories from the past.

Satake's paintings are characterized by layering various colors of paint and carving motifs with a sculpting knife. The texture of her paintings seems to unearth the surface of landscapes formed over time, visualizing images received from the continuous footsteps of people from the past to the present and into the future.

In recent years, in addition to her creative activities in various places such as Oji Town, Ibaraki Prefecture, which suffered flood damage in the 2019 typhoon, she has also worked on works inspired by scenes of disasters she learned about through the media, deepening her expression by projecting events and their changes that she has been observing on the coast of Miyagi Prefecture onto distant lands.

This time, focusing on the theme of "indicators" of various changes that Satake found in people's lives after significant events like disasters, she will mainly present her works. Additionally, alongside Satake's new works featuring Morioka as a motif, a charity project for the Noto Peninsula earthquake will also be held simultaneously. It will be an exhibition suitable for the season when we feel the arrival of spring after a long winter.
