Imura art gallery is pleased to announce "Duo / Pink Sun," a solo exhibition of Makiko Tanaka, an artist living in France.
France-based artist Makiko Tanaka graduated from Women's Junior College of Fine Arts. After graduation, Tanaka went to France in 2013 under the Agency for Cultural Affairs Overseas Study Program and has since been active mainly in France and Japan. In this exhibition, Tanaka will present new works, mainly oil paintings depicting two girls, based on the theme of the word "Duo," which is also the title of the exhibition.

The word "duo" is derived from the Greek word δύο (dio) meaning two, and just as one added to one becomes two, a duo is the smallest unit of composition between two things or people. In France, where Tanaka lives, she says she often sees pink sunsets. This phenomenon seems to be caused by the balance of humidity and wavelengths of light. Tanaka feels that in human relationships, the relationship of "two" has the power to change the scenery around them according to the wavelengths and biorhythms of each person.

The girls in the picture are conscious of each other and exist as individuals, but they are depicted as if they are somehow close to each other in a world of just the two of them.
