Mammals 3 – The Parade of Life

Fukuoka City Museum
Finished
The traveling exhibition "Mammals 3 – The Parade of Life," which was held at the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo from March to June, is coming to the Fukuoka City Museum. This popular series, ongoing at the National Museum of Nature and Science since 2010, is making its debut in Fukuoka. Based on the Tokyo exhibition, it has been partially restructured to be easily understood by visitors encountering the Great Mammals Exhibition for the first time.

The theme of this exhibition is "classification" and "phylogeny," which are fundamental to biodiversity research. With over 6,500 species of mammals living in various environments around the world, including land, water, underground, and even in the air, the exhibition explores the many "mysteries" that emerge by classifying and connecting their relationships based on appearance, internal characteristics, and DNA.

The main highlight is the area where approximately 200 taxidermy specimens from the National Museum of Nature and Science are "marching" in a grand parade. Enjoy a vibrant "co-starring space" featuring animals that cannot be seen together in nature or zoos, including tigers, pandas, okapis, and seals, as well as small creatures like flying squirrels and moles. Pay special attention to the full skeleton of an Asian elephant and a life-size replica of a blue whale's heart.
