Masami Shimizu
Across the eras of Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa, from the 1980s to the present. Art director Masami Shimizu will exhibit over 300 magazines he has been involved in creating.

Magazines that sharply captured the cultural scene of that era, ranging from Studio Voice, X-Men, Cut, Rockin’on Japan, and An, to Shinchosha Monthly Series, Filt, We/, and more, will be showcased. Now, a reinterpretation of "neo-culture" emerges.

The idea for the exhibition started one day when Shimizu was discussing the storeroom where many magazines he directed art for were sleeping. Should these magazines conveying messages since the 1980s be left to sleep as they are, eventually quietly organized? Shimizu, along with the generation that raced through the times and the new generation creating the sense of the new era, wants people to take another look at these magazines that have become ingrained in the material of paper through their designs. In an age where most information and culture are transitioning to digital, how will they be perceived?

With such thoughts, the Spiral Garden, easily accessible to everyone, was chosen as the venue for the first exhibition. Despite the seemingly simple exhibition method, Masami Shimizu's dedication to realism is evident in every detail.
