Artists

Masataka Nakano
This exhibition is a photography exhibition by photographer Masataka Nakano.

The title "Pathos" comes from Greek and signifies emotional states involving passions, desires, sentiments, pleasures, or pains. The exhibition consists of approximately 80 works captured overseas around the year 2000, in places like Cuba and Hong Kong. Nakano was fascinated by people striving to live strongly amidst the hope and anxiety intersecting as the world entered a new century. His photographs capture the vitality of people resiliently living through political and economic transitions.

Reflecting on the current situation in Japan while viewing these works, one might realize how fundamental human emotions such as joy, fear, anger, and sadness merge with the culture and values of each country, influencing the formation of its culture.
