Maurice Denis and Japan

The Niigata Prefectural Museum of Modern Art
Finished

Artists

Maurice Denis
Maurice Denis (1870-1943) was a leading figure in the French avant-garde group "Les Nabis" (Prophets), whose work connected painting with other arts. Denis' influence extended to Japan, where artists like Ryuzaburo Umehara studied under Denis. This exhibition, a collaboration between the Niigata Prefectural Museum of Modern Art and the Kurume City Art Museum, is the first in Japan to explore Denis' life and impact on Japanese art.
