Artists

Mayu Masuda
Mayu Masuda’s works share common themes of limbs extended and liberated from gravity, and twisted forms, rooted in the expressions found in ballet and jazz dance. These artworks capture the dissonance of modern life and the inner voices it evokes, with limbs intertwining in both fluid and constrained ways, presenting us with rich emotional expressions. In this exhibition, Masuda will display three sculptures along with smaller pieces, all centered around the concept of “wonderful,” which the artist has chosen to emphasize. For Masuda, “wonderful” embodies the fluctuations of our true selves in daily life, even as it remains an elusive concept. This inner landscape is beautifully represented through the soft curves of wood carvings.
