Michiaki Mochizuki
It has been almost a year since the passing of Kazumi Sakata (1945-2022) of Sakata Antique Tools. In October, a solo exhibition by dyeing artist Michiaki Mochizuki will be held, and in November, an exhibition of antique items will be held.

Of the 26 exhibitions held at Sakata Ancient Tools (1973-2020), Mochizuki's two solo exhibitions were the only ones that were not of antique items. The logo of “As it is," a private museum established by Sakata in 1994, is in Mochizuki's handwriting, and his works are also introduced in his book "Hitori Yogari no Monoshashi.”

Along with architect Yoshifumi Nakamura, who designed “As it is," Mochizuki was the contemporary artist that Sakata appreciated and trusted the most.

The exhibition will feature more than a dozen works, including a portrait of Sakata drawn for this issue of “As it is" and a series of door paintings (dye prints) for "Kogei Seika."
