Miki Mochizuka
MISAKO & ROSEN is pleased to announce our exhibition with Miki Mochizuka - Skew. Miki Mochizuka was born (1974) and presently lives and works in Shizuoka, Japan. Mozhizuka's recent solo exhibitions include Shane Campbell, Chicago (2016), Quadrangle, MISAKO & ROSEN (2014) and The Vangi Sculpture Garden Museum, Shizuoka(2012-13). In 2014, he exhibited in "The way of painting" at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery.

Mochizuka’s paintings are formed from ambiguous memories and abstract mental afterimages. These elements are transformed by the artist in an act of convenience; suddenly there is a deviation, a skewing of essence in favor of fact. In these new paintings, Mochizuki eschews inessential brushwork in favor of the use of his bare hand, resulting in a controlled imbalance. In this way, the physical process of painting is also askew. Much like a cloud transforming or the unfolding of a Japanese fable, the oversaturated paintings may serve to prompt a shifting sense of perception and understanding.
